Many Flipinos prefer to live in the United States rather than their own country. This is because of how they see U.S.A as a luxurious place. I, on the other hand, prefer the Philippines because it's my home and it's where I rightfully belong.
It's quite sad that Filipinos prioritize imported products over our local products. If you asked people why they prioritize imported products, they say it's because those products are very delicious. Examples of these products are the delicious and sweet American chocolates. I can't deny it either; imported products are very delicious. It's just that they don't support our products. Also, Filipinos would prefer other foreign stuff like foreign music, foreign singers, artists, and the like. Again, they prefer those because they have better quality than our local ones. Filipino students even prefer to speak and practice the American language over our language because they think it's less complicated.
There are only very few Filipinos who don't have the colonial mentality. Even I have the colonial mentality, but as an Ateneo Hearter, I can overcome colonial mentality and promote our Filipino culture and products by supporting them more. There's no way to prevent yourself from using American products, so my solution to Colonial Mentality is basically to support the Filipino culture more.
